Keep Us Moving Forward

My name is Peter Niles and I am running for re-election to the Clinton Board of Police Commissioners. For the past six years, I have served on the police commission, the last four years of which I have been its chairman.

During this time I led the search for a new chief of police, which resulted in the hiring of current Chief Vin DeMaio. I am very active in my relationship with our police department and seeing how it affects the daily lives of the people of Clinton.

The work of the police commission is primarily one of civilian oversight of the department, making sure we manage the police budget (our money) carefully, while ensuring that services are delivered.

In the last few years, our world has changed with new technology, smartphones, and the Internet. Not all of it has been for the good as new types of crime have been spawned. This new atmosphere creates new real challenges that confront Clinton law enforcement and the fact is, there is much more work to be done to be the professional agency we can be to meet these threats. My experience in these matters will help to keep us moving forward. Your readers’ votes in support of my candidacy can make that happen.
