It Has Been Essential

The Scranton Library Friends (SLF) thanks the book lovers, readers, and those who have donated and shopped our book sales. Because of that support, SLFs has held four successful three-day books sales. From our four sales, we have raised close to $19,000, all of which will go to support of our Scranton Library. This has been a remarkable achievement. As you know, we have been functioning under very different circumstances, and faced with many challenges precipitated by the construction of our wonderful new library and our move to smaller quarters. Yes, we’re tucked in an out-of-the-way place, but your readers found us and their wonderful donations keep pouring in. Thanks go to all who donated, shopped, and helped out in numerous ways, making this year’s book sales successful.

We’re not finished. Mark your calendars: SLF will hold three, one-day book sales on Friday, Sept. 20, Friday, Oct. 18, and Friday, Nov. 15. The time for each is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 114 Bradley Road, behind the closed Tuxis Laundromat.

We ask patrons to keep bringing us their gently used books, CDs, and DVDs. Donations may be made at any time by placing items in the cabinet at 114 Bradley Road. Receipts are available.

I encourage your readers to plan to do some early holiday shopping. Numerous books are like new; many are still on the bestseller list. We have wonderful children’s books and history and biography. My family loves a Book-Grab-Bag as a grand finale to our holiday celebrations. It is a lot of fun.

Finally, as president of The Scranton Library Friends, let me thank the Madison community that has given us unmatched patronage at a time when it has been essential. We look forward with eagerness our final three sales of this year.
