To Protect the People

I’ve lived in North Haven for about 40 years, and my husband for 60 years. My mom, Alicia Clapp, who lives with us, has an even longer history in town. We’ve all sat on boards and commissions in town. We’re a family of service. The local boards and commissions are unpaid positions. Serving the town can be a thankless job. It can be very time consuming. Once appointed or elected, you take an oath to represent the people of North Haven—all of the people. One shouldn’t go on a board because of a personal agenda, wanting a Planning & Zoning Commission approval or bus route change, or with a gripe with someone. You serve everyone in this town, even if you disagree with them.

Sometimes in order to get items passed, you need to compromise. That’s life. I’m a Democrat and I know both candidates for Board of Police Commissioners, Jenny Caldwell and Pete Criscuolo. They are both very nice people and I believe they both care about this town. The Democratic bickering disheartens me. Primaries are a democratic right, however, with compromise and face-to-face conversation, differences can often be worked out and primaries avoided. I didn’t read all of the comments or letters posted online or in the papers. However, I read enough to feel the rage and venom of distrust and disdain.

Pete Criscuolo has served our town for more than 20 years. His personal life or business is not our concern. He has served our town valiantly, working fervently to get money to furnish North Haven with state-of-the-art safety equipment, including drones, vests, and an ATV. How is this a bad thing? I support Peter Cricuolo because he has worked to protect the people of North Haven by supporting our firefighters. He deserves re-election.
