09/04/2019 08:00 AMYes, the Democratic Town Committee endorsed Jennie Caldwell to run for fire commission in North Haven. I nominated Jennie for this position. I did so for the following reasons:
She has degrees in occupational therapy and special education and is pursuing a master’s degree in healthcare management. She is an active member of our community and is an active and dedicated member of the Democratic Town Committee.
Her knowledge and background will bring new insight and new blood to the fire commission. It is imperative that we move into the 21st century and when elected, Jennie will be the first Democratic woman to be fire commissioner in our town.
Currently we have no female firefighters to join the ranks of our female volunteer firefighters; she will work toward that goal. Currently we have fundraising for equipment that is necessary for our firefighters; she will work for a budget that includes adequate financing for the department. Currently we have no commissioner with a healthcare background when a majority of our calls are medical; she will bring an awareness and comprehension to this situation.
There have been many who are questioning the nomination of Jennie by the Democratic Town Committee over Peter Criscuolo, the current fire commissioner. This commissioner position is not a seat that one can bully or threaten one’s way into, nor is it a position that is automatically given to the person who has held it the longest. It is not a seat that one group of people in town can command be filled by their friend. And our party will not bend to the will of outsiders, union bosses, and state politicians in the name of cronyism.
Simply put, the fire commissioner seat is not for sale. I encourage your readers to vote for Jennie, a clean slate.
