Consistent Interest in Serving

I am writing in response to the Aug. 15 letter “Needs Stable Leadership” [by Eduardo Torrealba] criticizing Sal Maltese’s previous runs for mayor, which include securing nominations by both the Republican and the Democratic parties. The author suggests that this record should disqualify Mr. Maltese from consideration in this year’s elections. I respectfully disagree.

Is it really a bad thing that Mr. Maltese has shown a consistent interest in serving his town in public office? Is it a bad thing that he has shown that he can work with, and appeal to, members of both parties? Rather than weaknesses, I consider these to be strengths.

These strengths, along with his solid business background, his deep roots in the community and his personal integrity make Sal Maltese the best candidate to provide the open, honest and stable leadership that we all want for East Haven.
