A Strong Financial Background

One thing I must give credit to are the financial policies of Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr. Having served a few terms with the Board of Finance, I can attest that while I always didn’t agree with all the budgets he presented, in the end they worked for the taxpayers of East Haven.

I don’t like nor approve of making political promises just to get elected, but you can be assured of one thing: The concept of a balanced budget, striving for a surplus, and maintaining the great credit ratings East Haven currently has are thanks to the financial policy of Mayor Maturo. The outstanding management of the towns funds by Finance Director Paul Rizza and the elected members of the Board of Finance can’t go unnoticed, either.

Moving forward in any year’s budget process is difficult. Trying to maintain an even keel on property taxes at the same time improving the towns infrastructure, making sure our first responders have the best tools available, and seeing to the needs of the town’s parks and ball fields requires instituting some difficult decisions.

With the budget surplus we currently have today thanks to Mayor Maturo, the majority of the needs of the town can be met while still maintaining the town’s great credit ratings. A portion of what we have available can go directly back to the property owners in a form of tax relief.

To do all this, one needs a strong financial background to assist department heads in their budget requests. I have that financial background. In private industry, I have worked on multi-million-dollar budgets and understand that financial process.

As mayor, I pledge to keep East Haven on that even financial keel and moving forward, always keeping East Haven financially sound.
