Needs Stable Leadership

I think Mr. Joseph Piccirillo [Aug. 1 letter “High Integrity and Character”] and I have a very different definition of integrity and character. In 2015, Sal Maltese lost the Republican nomination for mayor fair and square, and decided to run as an independent, losing that election. In 2017 he did not seek the Republican nomination and instead ran as a Democrat, losing again.

Finally, at the June East Haven Republican Town Committee meeting, Mr. Maltese came to seek the nomination of the Republican Party. I said to Mr. Maltese that in the last two elections I have seen him run as an independent and then as a Democrat, and asked him why he wasn’t running as a Democrat again. He was at the Republican Convention in July and did not have enough support to get his name into the nomination. Now he says that he may primary the Republican nominee, Stephen “Big Steve” Tracy.

East Haven needs stable leadership, not a person who changes his political stripes quickly and often just because he does not get his way. I think that leader is “Big Steve” and that is why I am one of his campaign volunteers.
