Keep Moving Ahead

I am happy to announce that I am running for re-election as Killingworth’s first selectman this fall. Because I am a candidate, The Source will not carry my biweekly column between now and November. Until then, I will communicate information in this letter format instead. Today, however, I’d like to say a few words about my candidacy.

As first selectman, I have devoted myself day and night to our wonderful town. I have built up years of experience in successfully handling the daily and long-term challenges we face, marshaling resources, responding to our residents’ needs, and advocating for our town regionally and statewide.

Today, Killingworth is strong. We have senior lunches, scheduled bus service, well-maintained playing fields, an emergency operations center, a veterans’ monument garden, a diverse agricultural sector, a showplace historic farm, and a host of amenities we didn’t have 10 years ago. Yet we have managed to keep our tax rate well below average for the state.

Our whole community should be proud of these accomplishments. As I said when we opened what is now the Eric Auer Killingworth Recreation Park several years ago, I am only the drum major of a fabulous band of volunteers—musicians who know how to play their instruments, read the music, and make rhythm and harmony. I work to keep all the players marching in the same direction and to make sure they have the instruments they need to perform well.

I am proud that my administration has built support for our volunteers, developed high standards of public service in Town Hall, brought people together for the good of our town, and raised our expectations for what we can do together. I’m running for reelection because there is much more to be done, and I look forward to keeping Killingworth moving ahead.
