Why Not East Haven?

Recently the New York Times ran an excellent article on our close town neighbor Milford. The article was highly favorable to the quality of life in Milford and the town’s proximity to Long Island Sound. My initial reaction was: Why not East Haven?

East Haven, with its great location to the urban center of New Haven, its beautiful shoreline, and small community flavor is a town that should be on the radar of every tourist and every business and every new neighbor. We have all the potential here and an opportunity to bring it to light.

An idea that I believe is worth exploring is bringing higher education institutions to the town. If you look around New Haven County, you will notice that colleges and universities are a staple. Yale has campuses in West Haven and New Haven, the University of New Haven has a campus in Orange, and North Haven and Hamden are home to Quinnipiac University. So, why not East Haven?

Why not give our town the opportunity to partner with a university or trade school and bring a satellite campus to East Haven? We have plenty of commercial property to promote such an idea. Colleges bring students and students bring their desire to learn as well as spending their resources in our town. There will be new ideas and new small businesses springing up around any higher ed campus. Why not prove to our residents and families with young children that we are serious about their future?

The possibilities are endless for our economic development, improving our education system and re-branding and rebuilding our reputation as a vibrant welcoming community ready to grow again.

I believe this is possible. Lets move East Haven forward!
