Silent and Respectful

The morning of May 27, the sky held the promise of ending our holiday weekend with sunshine and a deep blue backdrop, which is always a gift!

In the back of my mind, I knew we would attend the parade to honor our present and fallen heroes. But, selfishly, I briefly thought of staying home and getting things done. As quickly as the thought crossed my mind, I immediately knew I would attend the ceremony.

Standing at the green, one can see and feel the effort various groups put forth to bring together a beautiful time of appreciation and celebration. The strength it took for Captain Andrew Peterson-Keel’s mother to speak goes right to any parent’s heart and soul.

My only request, observation, regret was that due to many side conversations, children running around yelling, and a bit of early celebrating for yet another day off, it was extremely difficult to hear the speeches.

We are all guilty of drifting off during ceremonious events, but let’s please keep in mind for the hour or so during this event we need to be silent and respectful. This is especially true to teach our children they need to learn when to play and when to instill self discipline.

Most of us are extremely fortunate to leave and still have many hours of family and fun on Memorial Day.
