Discussion and Action

Town action to ensure the safety of our marine life in the Long Island Sound; the fish in our state’s streams, rivers, and lakes; the preservation of our birds; the beauty of our shoreline, forests, farmlands, private and public properties, and scenic roadways; and the livelihood of our tourist industry workers will be addressed at the Wednesday, June 12 meeting of the Branford RTM at the firehouse at 8 p.m.

The proposed town ordinance on the ban of single-use plastic bags at check-out was sent from the RTM’s Rules and Ordinance Committee to the town attorney in April to ensure proper legal terminology and good standing as a regulation. Apparently, the busy time of budget issues and other town business prevented presentation of the proposal at May’s RTM meeting.

With our town attorney now having had sufficient time to review this proposed ordinance, I look forward to the June 12 RTM meeting’s discussion and action leading to its enactment, which will positively impact the future of our environment, our industry, and the wellbeing of the people of Branford and our surrounding communities.
