Destroying our Neighborhood

In response to concerns expressed by many in the Town of Deep River involving the office of the first selectman and members of the Inland Wetlands and Planning & Zoning commissions and that the pockets of Angus McDonald his and his wife Andrea Isaacs are being filled at the expense of quality of life of the residents of River Street, Phelps Lane, and Kirtland Street, the fact that the first selectman is trying to pass floating zoning so he can change the residential property at 138 River Street into a commercial kitchen, moving his business Cloud Nine Catering and Café from Old Saybrook to Deep River and destroying our neighborhood with more traffic and cooking smells.

I’ve lived here more than 40 years and that property was never a parking lot except for the pickup truck, a dump truck, and back hoe and occasionally former owner Robert Grieder’s lobster boat. Before him, Howard Lee lived there and only kept his one car on the property. Anyone saying it was a parking lot is lying unless you’re talking about today, where it’s being used possibly as a parking lot for the Lace Factory’s employees, which may or may not be legal.

I believe that what we may need is a federal investigation into allegations of corruption and collusion involving the first selectman, and the Inland Wetlands and Planning & Zoning commissions. Keep in mind that there are good people who sit on these boards; it only takes one or two carefully appointed officials to ruin what we have.
