Noise Ordinance Ignored

I am a lifelong resident of East Haven. I live on Coe Avenue. For years now I’ve been fighting for the quality of life that taxpaying residents deserve and have been repeatedly denied regarding excessive noise emanating from illegal vehicles on my street and others. This extreme violation of our noise ordinance as stated in our Town Charter has gone unchecked by town officials and the police department for far too long.

The excessive, constant, ear-splitting, heart-stopping noise from illegal, altered, and modified two- and three-wheel recreational vehicles as well as cars whose owners have done the same modifications to their vehicles in order to emit extreme noise must be stopped.

Why does the East Haven Police Department and the mayor abdicate their power of law enforcement to the violators of the Article IV—Noise in our East Haven Code of Ordinances? We have a noise ordinance that needs to be acted upon when violations occur. As it stands, the police are powerless and the violators know it.

Section 12-51-Statement of Purpose regarding noise states: “It is recognized that people have a right to and should be ensured an environment free from excessive sound and vibration that may jeopardize their health or safety or welfare or degrade the quality of life. This article is enacted to protect, preserve, and promote the health, safety, welfare, and quality of life for the citizens of the town through reduction, control and prevention of noise.”

This noise ordinance is being completely ignored and has caused consequential results for the residents of Coe Avenue and almost all of the streets and roads in town

I don’t want excuses. I want a quality of life for myself and my neighbors. I want action and results.
