Clinton’s proposed 2019-’20 education operating budget increase is $304,812, just a 0.93 percent increase, less than one percent. The inflation rate for 2019 in the United States will be 2.2 percent, according to Kiplinger’s financial forecast. In 2018, it was 1.9 percent. That means that Clinton’s Board of Education is finding a way to keep costs contained that beats the rate of inflation.

The fact is, Clinton spends less than just about any school system around the shoreline. According to the Per Pupil Expenditure figures as calculated by the State of Connecticut and as defined in Connecticut General Statues Section 10-261(a)(3), and available to the public on CTStateFinance.org, Madison spends 7.3 percent more per pupil than Clinton, Branford spends 5.2 percent more, Old Saybrook spends 13.4 percent more than Clinton, and Westbrook spends 34.7 percent more. In the shoreline, only Guilford spends less, at 2.5 percent.

The people who will tell you to vote “No” in May will always have some different reason why. They will always tell you that we should do more with less. As can be seen from the facts above, we already do. I encourage your readers to come out on Wednesday, May 8 and vote “Yes” for our town and our schools.
