Stand Up and Support

The Henry Carter Hull Library is more than just a building filled with books, magazines, newspapers, movies, recordings of music and literature, computers, printers, copy machines and access to the Internet. It represents our community and serves people of all ages, economic status, and cultures. It is staffed by experienced librarians and assistants who have dedicated their lives to helping people help themselves in the lifelong quest for knowledge, self-improvement, and appreciation of the beauty and complexity of the world we live in. It’s like a very small university for all. And it’s free.

Except free does cost money. Our library requires adequate funding in order to remain the community anchor that it is now. It takes money to support the delivery of these vital resources and services that enrich our lives and our community. It takes money, but only a very small portion of our tax budget is used to keep our library funded at a level that makes all these services possible. I am asking your readers to stand up and state their support for the HCH Library at the Clinton Board of Finance budget hearing on Wednesday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. and to make sure they get out and vote “Yes” for the town budget on May 8. We deserve a library that is fully supported by the town it serves.
