On the Path to Win

It has been over three years since our Guilford American Legion Post partnered with Guilford High School (GHS) to undertake a common goal—a goal to put GHS on a path to winning all four levels of the American Legion Oratorical Scholarship Program.

We are now on that path. Mariam Kish is the first GHS contestant to win the Second District contest; her performance on Feb. 9 was outstanding (a tribute to her native intellect). I can’t tell you how proud we all are of her performance. Her subject matter on the U.S. Constitution was profound and her speeches were delivered with great poise. We are confident that, as a competitor going forward, she will be a tough contender to beat

The members of my post were also extremely proud of her performance at Girls State, and now with her Feb. 9 win, she will compete in the department contest. How well she does at department or national level can only add to her many achievements

We wish her good luck going forward and beyond!

Ed Manzi, Past Commander
