Serving with Dedication and Distinction

The motto of the Clinton Lions Club is “We Serve.” Those words sum up their mission in the Clinton community. They serve and have served our community with dedication and distinction. They’ve been doing this in our town for many years.

Thirteen years ago, they approached a new start-up called Families Helping Families (FHF) and asked only one question: How can we help? Their suggestion was to host an annual pancake breakfast fundraiser. From that very first breakfast until now, the Lions’ breakfast has turned into a Clinton institution held the last Sunday of January. The breakfast has raised thousands upon thousands of dollars and more than two tons of food for the Shoreline Soup Kitchens & Pantries’ Clinton Food Pantry.

The Lions continue to do wonderful events in our community. Every year they hold an Easter Egg Hunt and it’s quite the sight to see. They hold an annual golf tournament with the Clinton Education Foundation, which raises money for scholarships for our children and also provides stipends for teachers with special interests they want to pursue in the summer months. The Lions also do regular eye testing, especially of our younger children, hoping to make sure all of our children won’t encounter eye problems in the future.

This year FHF approached the Lions Club with a different idea for Thanksgiving: providing food gift cards so each family could a full Thanksgiving table. They wholeheartedly endorsed the idea and with their help, each family using the pantry was provided a gift food card.

We in Clinton are so blessed because this dedicated group takes its motto to heart. They continue to serve our community in many different venues and never get tired of doing so. How blessed we are to have them caring about our community.
