What do you really know about the Old Saybrook Garden Club? During the summer months, your readers see us on Main Street tending the median planters with our signature orange vests and safety cones. We are also at Constitution Garden in front of Saybrook Home, the firehouse garden, and planters at the Acton Library and Old Saybrook Police Headquarters.

During the holiday season we supply and maintain the wreaths and garlands that light up the lampposts down the center of Main Street. There are also floral arrangements in the Acton Library on a weekly basis. Many support our Gardeners Market held each Mother’s Day weekend on the Town Green, for which we are very grateful. This, our only fundraiser, is the major source of revenue to support our civic beautification and educational programs.

But there is so much more to a garden club. On Monday, Feb. 4, during our monthly meeting, we will have an informative program “What is a Garden Club?” which will focus on the club’s five-part mission statement. We cordially invite interested ladies and gentlemen to attend this meeting to be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 56 Great Hammock Road at 10 a.m. Following the meeting attendees are welcome to stay for our program, “Rock Gardens” presented by Adam Wheeler of Broken Arrow Nursery, as well as refreshments.
