To a New Start

After many years of deliberation of the old high school, a decision finally has been unanimously voted on by the East Haven Town Council on Dec. 4 to sell a portion to be redeveloped to WinnDevelopment from Boston. Without getting to all the political dissertations that has come out of this, we finally can move positively forward with a new redeveloped, age-restricted facility along with new enhancements from the town to develop a community center by upgrading the pool, gym, and auditorium.

So this being said, this hasn’t come without a lot of reaction from the people of the town, both positive and negative, and rightly so. This has been an elephant in the room for more than 20 years. Throughout these years, not many solutions were presented as to what could be done to develop, enhance, or even tear down until now. The building is in disrepair and rodent-infested, and vandalism has occurred over the years. It’s now time to eliminate the wasted expenses on a building that serves no purpose and to finally move forward into a new direction for the people of East Haven.

We control our own destiny; it’s not about a political party on this vote, it’s about what’s best for the town, it’s about making a positive upgrade to an old dilapidated building. It’s about enhancing a neighborhood that for years has been stuck in uncertainty. In 2019, we can continue looking at the glass being half empty—or will we, as a town, finally to turn the page determined to be the best we can be? The possibilities are endless. Here’s to a new start in the New Year!
