Will Focus on Our Interests

As an Old Saybrook resident and selectman, it is important for me to keep an eye on what happens in the Connecticut Legislature and how legislation will affect our town’s budget. Over the past four years, I have seen State Representative Devin Carney (R-23) advocate tirelessly for our community and will be voting for him on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

I am confident Devin will continue to stand up for Old Saybrook. He stopped legislation that would have caused property tax hikes and increased costs on Old Saybrook. Our mill rate went down this year, but had Governor Dannel Malloy had his way and passed teacher’s retirement costs onto our local municipality or given our car tax dollars to other towns, it wouldn’t have. We need Devin in Hartford to stand against these types of ideas that will hurt us. As ranking member of the Transportation Committee, he was at the table and prevented serious cuts and fare hikes to Shore Line East and 9-Town Transit.

We need an advocate in Hartford who will focus on our interests and work alongside local government against new mandates in costs. Devin has proven to be that advocate and, if your readers support local control and keeping Hartford out of our coffers, then they should be voting for Devin Carney for re-election.
