Vote ‘Yes,’ Period

Lately I have received many phone calls asking my opinion on the proposed charter change to a town manager-town council government. As a former selectman and member of the Board of Finance, I honestly believe it is the right way to move forward with our town.

The expertise, efficiency, and professional manner that a town manager brings to town government is unquestionable—one would only have to hear the recent presentation by Matt Galligan, town manager of South Windsor to realize the benefits of this form of government. (To view the presentation, search “Charter Reform Coalition Forum 10 4 18” on YouTube.) Information from that presentation indicated that during a survey of 20 of the most efficient towns, that 16 had town manager form of government. That’s quite an endorsement for a town manager.

Now, to accomplish this change to town manager-town council government all one has to do is go to question #3 on the ballot and vote “Yes” for town manager, period. Nothing else is necessary; one does not have to deal with question #4 at all.

My fellow residents have in the past supported me in my endeavors: coaching youth football, coaching at the high school, and serving on boards of Selectman and Finance. I encourage them to join with me in supporting this important change to our charter by voting “Yes” for town manager.
