Keep Branford Beautiful

In 1991, Branford citizens finally realized a long-held dream, that of preserving a large area of great natural beauty known as Beacon Hill. For those unacquainted with this area, it is located on our western border high above Long Island Sound.

Because I was president of the Branford Land Trust at that time, I remember the preservation effort very clearly, as well as the great sense of accomplishment once the State of Connecticut agreed to purchase it for preservation, we assumed permanently.

However, in fact, the state is able to bargain, give, or trade its open apace holdings. On Nov. 6, we will be able to vote for permanent preservation by voting “Yes” on ballot Question 2. Maine, Massachusetts, and New York have all enacted protections for open space in their state constitutions and it is time that Connecticut does the same, but it will happen only if we all support it.

Therefore, I encourage all of your readers to vote “Yes” on question 2 on Election Day. Let’s ensure that our hard-fought effort to protect open space and keep Branford beautiful is not thwarted.
