Always There for Westbrook

As a Realtor along the shoreline, I hear from people all the time who want to move from Connecticut because of the high cost-of-living. Many states do not have the same tax burden that Connecticut has, particularly when it comes to property taxes, income taxes, and retirement costs. At the same time, many people are concerned about their property values and how they are affected by Connecticut’s economy. Fortunately, we have a state representative who gets it.

State Representative Devin Carney (R-23) has always been there for Westbrook and has been a staunch defender of taxpayers. He understands that Connecticut has one of the highest property tax burdens in the nation and many taxpayers, particularly those on fixed incomes, cannot take another hike. When Governor Dannel Malloy wanted to mandate that towns pay for part of the state’s retirement obligations, Devin knew this was robbing Peter to pay Paul and would have been a huge burden on taxpayers in his district and helped stopped it. Devin also listened to local taxpayers and helped stop a proposed new statewide property tax on seasonal homes, of which there are many in Westbrook.

Instead, Devin has always supported legislation that would help grow Westbrook’s economy and reduce our tax burden. He has always advocated for a tax structure that would enable Connecticut to be more competitive with our neighbors—including successfully reducing the sales tax on boats, reducing the estate tax, and reducing taxes on Social Security.

We are lucky to have Devin Carney in Hartford fighting for us and I hope your readers will support him on Nov. 6.
