A Real Independent Voice

I’m a lifelong Democrat and a retired teacher. I typically vote Democrat and plan on voting for many Democrats in the upcoming election. In the 23rd House District race, though, I will be crossing the aisle and voting for our state representative, Devin Carney. Why? It’s because he is thoughtful, engaged, and is a real independent voice for our region. He doesn’t get bogged down in politics and always stands up for the people of the 23rd District.

As a retired teacher, I am deeply concerned about the health of the Teacher’s Retirement Fund. Devin has consistently advocated paying our debt down and becoming a more fiscally responsible state. I appreciate that he knows government can’t keep kicking the can down the road on this issue. He has also been a staunch supporter of our local public schools and ensuring every child in the district gets a great education, just like he did in Old Saybrook.

Devin is a real breath of fresh air in a time of deep political division. Political labels don’t matter to him—all that does is doing the right thing. I hope your readers—Democrat, Republican, or unaffiliated—choose Devin on Nov. 6 because he’s earned another term.
