Represents Common Sense

I state up front that I am supporting and voting for Democrat Jason Adler for our 35th District state representative seat. He’s a husband, father, school counselor, educational union leader who negotiates public contracts and a common-sense individual involved fully in life.

Opposing him is the Republican candidate, incumbent Jesse MacLachlan, but as you have well noticed, the GOP of yesteryear no longer exists—it has been changing over the years so that now it is no longer your father’s GOP. It now moves in lock step and is stepping away from normalcy and common sense.

How else can you understand this district’s GOP representative (and this November’s GOP candidate) voting against House Bill 5054, An Act Protecting Victims of Domestic Violence? He voted against the recommendation of police officers on this bipartisan bill, which states that when a household becomes the scene of domestic violence, the police would have the right to confiscate firearms on the property, thereby avoiding gun violence. Bill 5054 is bipartisan and makes common sense; it was supported by those standing for community and family values in response to the searing pain of the Newtown carnage.

MacLachlan voted “No” on this bill; he voted against community values, stability, and common sense. He voted with the NRA; he told common sense to go fly a kite. As to Bill 5054, it passed—both houses and the governor said “Yes.” His “No” vote fell because common sense prevailed.

As I said, I’m voting for Jason Adler on Nov. 6. He will represent common sense for us in Hartford.
