Truly Town-Wide

The Friends of the Guilford Free Library would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the 37th annual Book and Bake Sale. The sale, a key component of the friends’ fundraising efforts, took place the weekend of Sept. 26 to 28, but the effort lasted far longer, beginning with the donors who all year brought in their gently used books for resale. We thank them as well as the bakers whose home-made treats added a homey and delicious touch to the event; the volunteers who worked as cashiers; the librarian and his staff, whose efforts were beyond the call of duty; the media, which publicized the event; and the Big Y, whose donated bags allowed patrons to carry off more than just a single armful of purchases. We especially thank our supporters who patronized the sale in the pouring rain and the bright sunshine.

Because of the efforts of these many contributors, the sale raised an all-time record $54,814. The money purchases hundreds of new books, both print and non-print; equipment including a high-quality scanner for duplicating historical documents; and such library amenities as wifi hotspots for patrons. The proceeds also support programs—author discussions, concerts, movies, teen and adult technology workshops, story hours, museum memberships, and science programs for old and young—and library staff development.

The Friends of the Guilford Free Library, which continues to welcome new members, expresses its gratitude to all who made the sale a successful and truly town-wide event.
