Truly Gets It

As we get close to retiring, we have a big decision to make about our future here in the State of Connecticut. We have both lived in Old Saybrook our whole lives and love this community for all it has offered us and our family. But, we are also concerned about the high cost-of-living here. There are many other states offering a less expensive option for retirees, including lower property taxes and no income tax.

Our state representative, Devin Carney, has always been there to listen to our concerns and speak up for us at the Capitol. He has tried to make Connecticut more affordable for retirees by reducing the estate tax, reducing taxes on pensions and social security, and proposing property tax freezes for seniors.

As new grandparents, we also worry about our grandson’s future here. What will his opportunities be? What will Connecticut’s debt look like when he grows up? Will he be able to find a job and afford to live here?

Devin wants to reinvigorate Connecticut’s economy and tackle Connecticut’s debt head-on. He has opposed kicking the can down the road on our unfunded pension liabilities and unfunded teacher’s retirement payments. He understands we have to make tough financial decisions today in order to realize a prosperous future. He has been an ally to small business and has worked hard to support job growth and reduce business costs and regulations.

Devin is that rare state representative who truly gets it. He’s looking out for us facing retirement decisions and for those of us just coming into this world. We encourage your readers to vote to re-elect him on Nov. 6.
