Actively Tackling this Crisis

The rates of mental illness and addiction are clearly trending upward in Connecticut and tragically impacting our families and communities. Access to care and quality of treatment is vital to addressing these challenges in an efficient and cost-effective way.

State Representative Devin Carney (R) of the 23rd House District knows that a proactive approach to mental healthcare is in everyone’s best interests. Rep. Carney has a strong record of supporting mental health-related legislation. He introduced legislation to expand access to substance abuse treatment facilities and fought hard to pass legislation improving the training standards for licensed professional counselors (LPCs). As an LPC, this legislation not only benefits the integrity of my profession, but importantly, guarantees that future mental health clinicians are trained with excellence and prepared with advanced skills in diagnosis, addiction, and trauma. Rep. Carney also co-sponsored important legislation to support sober living homes, protect the elderly at risk of abuse, and advocate for sexual assault victims.

Mental illness touches each one of us in one way or another, our loved ones, our neighbors, and our entire community. Rep. Carney is willing to work hard to actively tackle this crisis in our communities. We need legislators like Rep. Carney who are true advocates for our most vulnerable citizens. This election I will vote for Rep. Carney, whom we can count on to fight hard for mental health in Connecticut.
