A Real and Comprehensive Grasp

I attended the Westbrook Council of Beaches candidate forum last week and I was very impressed with State Representative Devin Carney (R-23). Devin proved that he has a real and comprehensive grasp of data and policy and it re-affirmed my support for him.

It was clear that he prioritizes 23rd District taxpayers and local, small businesses in his decision-making as our state representative and wants to rebuild our economy. He said he would not support passing state costs, such as teacher’s retirement payments, onto our local municipalities. As the vice chair of the Old Saybrook Board of Finance, I agree with him because I have serious concerns as to how this would affect our property taxes and our town’s fiscal health.

Devin has always supported a real spending cap and has made it clear he would work to eliminate careless spending like the reckless $10 million toll study authorized by Governor Dannel Malloy. He understands how much we pay in taxes and that it adds insult to injury when government spends our tax dollars on such waste.

We need Devin up in Hartford to be our champion for reducing spending and for restoring our state’s prosperity. He earned my vote and I hope he can earn your readers’, too, on Nov. 6.
