A Genuine Commitment

Christine Cohen, Democratic candidate for state senator in the 12th District, has won the enthusiastic support of fire fighters, social workers, conservationists, women’s rights advocates, and many others across the social spectrum. In endorsing her recently, former President Barack Obama praised Cohen as one those “Americans who aren’t just running against something, but for something. They’re running to expand opportunity for all of us and to restore the dignity, honor, and compassion that should be the essence of public service.” Should be, but too often isn’t.

Many things are at stake in the upcoming midterm election on Nov. 6—the health of our economy and environment, continuing investment in our schools and healthcare, the enactment of common-sense gun-control legislation—but most important of all may be a genuine commitment to public service. Christine Cohen has earned my vote by demonstrating that commitment.
