Numbers Don’t Lie

I took note of a headline in the Sept. 20 edition of The Source, and it intrigued me: “Jesse MacLachlan Earns Independent Party Endorsement.” Say what?

The quote from Mr. MacLachlan and was even more intriguing: “Although I’m a Republican, I have successfully put politics aside and been an independent legislator throughout my tenure in Hartford, and this endorsement proves it.”

Fake news. Some basic research reveals that the Independent Party in Connecticut is anything but. It is just a second ballot line for Republican candidates. That’s right—the Independent Party was created to give members of the GOP another chance to gain votes through what appear to be meaningful cross endorsements. It does not support independent thinking or truly independent voters.

Like Jesse, 87 of the 91 Independent Party House candidates, or 95 percent, were cross-endorsed Republicans. Hardly independents, they’re far right Republicans in free-thinking clothing. The numbers don’t lie and Jesse shouldn’t either.

Jesse shouldn’t claim to be an Independent or presume that all voters are so gullible and ill-informed.

We know Jesse’s philosophy, his regressive views, and we’re not fooled by his false endorsement. We need a change and on Nov. 6, I’ll be voting for a truly inspiring candidate in the 35th District, Jason Adler.
