Can Do a Lot Better

I am supporting Devin Carney, our state representative for the 23rd District (Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook), because has solid core values and understands the difficult issues facing retirees in Connecticut.

Many retired people are leaving Connecticut because they can no longer afford to live here and the fiscal policies of other states better fit their needs. Connecticut is one of the least affordable states in which to retire and that must change. Connecticut’s property tax burden is one of the highest in the nation, yet some folks in Hartford want those costs to go up even further—thankfully, we have people like Devin who will stand up against that.

Devin has focused on improving tax policy for retirees by supporting sensible changes such as reducing the estate tax, pushing to phase out taxes on social security and pensions, and opposing policies that will lead to higher property taxes. He understands how important retirees are to our local economy and will continue to work to make Connecticut more affordable and more competitive.

We can do a lot better for our retirees. I encourage your readers to vote for Devin Carney on Nov. 6.
