Support for Summer Reading

The E.C. Scranton Memorial Library Children’s Department would like to publicly thank the following organizations and businesses for their support with our Summer Reading Program.

The following organizations offered us free space to hold our summer programs. This was especially important since the library is in a transition period to our new temporary location and I start my summer planning in January. Bauer Park allowed us to do three weeks of summer programming at its location. I found them very easy to work with and the space worked out fine.

Madison North Congregational Church also allowed us free use of its space for our preschool ballet programs offered by The Eastern Connecticut Ballet. These fine people only charged us for transportation cost and did excellent creative movement classes for our preschool population.

The Arts Barn cosponsored with us for two larger events, Dancin’ with Hoops as our kickoff program and the Sunny Train concert as our finale.

Prizes were donated by many businesses in Madison. Mariano’s Bakery and Eclectic Café both donated coupons for free cookies. Christy’s of Madison donated coupons for a free, child-sized pancake. Lenny & Joe’s continued its 20-year commitment of donating free ice cream coupons.

The New Britain Bees baseball team also donated free tickets to a baseball game to our lucky readers.

Our final pizza party was cosponsored by Grand Apizza, which gave us a 10 percent discount on our pizza.

We also want to thank The Scranton Library Friends members for their financial support of our summer programs. We could not offer a summer program without their generosity.

All these organizations and businesses helped 191 children continue to read over the summer.
