Kept Up at Night

The Essex Republican Town Committee held a very, very unorthodox straw poll on Primary Day, Aug. 14. We want to thank all who participated and hope they had as much fun as we did.

I know those who voted have been kept up at night wondering about the results. Well, the results have all been tabulated. The question was: Who do you support, the Red Sox or the Yankees?

But, we found that our participants were far more creative. Some voted for other baseball teams. The Mets got eight, Phillies got four, Pirates, Cardinals, Nats, Dodgers, Braves, and Indians all received one vote each. There were three U.S. football teams supported, with one vote each for the Steelers, Packers, and Cowboys. Three English football teams all received one vote each: Newcastle United, Liverpool, and Manchester—these votes caused the most conversation.

Sailing got one vote for Checkmate and golf had one vote for Tiger Woods. But my favorite was a gentleman who voted for the Beautiful Human Beings. After some coaching, it became Anasazis, a tribe from Arizona that mysteriously disappeared.

Now, the result that you all were waiting for: The Yankees received 62 and Red Sox won with 90. Thanks again, those who participated made our day!
