Take More Seriously

About a year and a half ago I wrote a letter about protecting our shared water supply from the possible effects of glyphosate used by our town government to kill vegetation along our roads.

The local health administrator was quick to assure us that this chemical was safe, as had the leadership of our Board of Selectmen to a concern raised by a another local resident.

My position at the time was that given our total dependence on our wells, some of which are shallow, we should err on the side of caution.

Now a trial in California in which glyphosphate producer Monsanto was accused of hiding known cancer risks has found for the plaintiff, and Monsanto has been ordered to pay more than $280 million in damages.

Now will Killingworth’s government take more seriously the protection of our water supplies from Monsanto’s chemicals?
