Idea Has Not Sprouted

With increased rainfall this summer my yard has had an abundance of weeds over take the flower beds. Keeping up with weed pulling to maintain the investment of plants and mulch for curb appeal has been extremely time consuming.

This is evidently not the case in front of The Morgan School, Clinton’s new crown jewel and family magnet. This letter is not intended to lay or cast blame on anyone, quite the contrary. I applaud the well-intentioned proposal to enact an environmentally sound approach to a large parcel of land. For whatever reason, this idea has not sprouted…literally. What the layman sees is simply an embarrassing collection of weeds in front of our new showcase Clinton attraction. While it looks okay when first mowed, it still appears sloppy and unprofessional.

So let us simply admit as a town the field grass idea, or whatever it is supposed to be officially called, did not work. Let’s fix it now. Might I suggest a wildflower mix, like the State of Connecticut has tried along the highways, or maybe some mixture of drought-resistant green grass? If labor to cut the grass is scarce, might I also suggest having students mow the lawn during detention (do we still give detentions)?

All kidding aside, there is always time to do a job the right way, thereby limiting rework. Let’s restart this landscaping project, do it right, and make our crown jewel really sparkle.
