So Many to Thank

It takes the help and kindness of many people to make the Scranton Library Friends’ Book Sale a success. We are grateful to the following people and businesses who so readily gave us help.

Fifty residents and businesses let us put up yard signs advertising the sale. We are grateful to Sandy Long, former Director of the Library, for purchasing the signs for our use. Jessica Littell and Gerry Birnbaum readily let us display a large sign with sale information on their property adjacent to Stop & Shop.

As always, Stop & Shop and Robert’s Food Center provided wonderful, heavy-duty shopping bags. These really help those purchasing larger numbers of books, of whom there were many. And Sherry Packevicz at Key Bank generously supplied equipment for our use.

At the end of the sale, we find good homes for as many items as we can. Vicki Littell brought many Bibles to Christian Community Action in New Haven. They were welcomed and put to good use. Left over puzzles went to the Hearth and Act II. A number of children’s books are set aside for Our Lady of Mercy School and inner-city schools in Hartford and New Haven. We always provide books for holiday gift baskets distributed by Community Services, so appropriate books have been stored to meet this need for the next two years.

Last, but not least, thanks go to all who donated books for the sale, to the many volunteers who worked at the sale, and to the shoppers who came and bought books. Proceeds from the sale help pay for many programs for all ages at the library.
