Necessary to a Fair Government

I am writing to implore Guilford’s Planning & Zoning Commission (PZC) to not change its format of two public meetings before a vote is taken to approve an application. We have seen in the past two years how important it is for the public to have an opportunity to review the facts presented with an application i.e. U-Haul, the Shoreline Greenway Trail, Nut Plains walkway, and propane application, to name just a few.

Had this current format not been in place, there would have been no time for the public to refute claims made by applicants. It is imperative that the public have ample opportunity to speak out against an item that may impact their neighborhood, town, or quality of life.

PZC should not allow the change to this current format go through. I encourage your readers to write to the selectmen and the PZC to oppose this change to the transparency necessary to support a fair town government! While the town leadership decries the lack of public participation in budget votes, caucuses, etc., this further diminishes our ability to do so.
