Will Make Us Stronger

Regarding budget information, there are many places to get information about the Clinton budgets. In my opinion, the best way is to go to the town’s website, find the department you are interested in learning about, take note of the meeting time of the oversight board(s) and/or commission(s), attend the meeting, ask questions, and share what you have learned with your neighbors and fellow Clintonians. You can also get the flavor of the meeting from what is published in the meeting minutes that are posted in PDF format on the applicable board, commission, or department web page.

Regarding the Town Charter, there appears to be a misunderstanding about the basic functions of government in Clinton. The governing document of Clinton is the Town Charter. The charter is reviewed and revised at least every five years. It is a laborious task and a necessary one. It is done by townspeople appointed by the selectmen, and careful attention is paid to the political affiliations of the members. All who pay taxes in Clinton should have a copy of this document. It is literally the town’s instruction manual. If you want to see the governing structure of the town revised, then you should take note of this commission and follow its progress.

I encourage your readers to express their opinions and ideas at public meetings, because that will make us stronger. I have seen this intrepid community rally many, many times in support of each other. This is one of those times.
