Other Ways to Raise Funds

With the annual Guilford Rotary LobsterFest rapidly approaching, I hope we can all take a moment to consider the innumerable innocent victims of this event: the lobsters themselves.

Lobsters feel pain, and boiling them or steaming them are two methods believed to be some of the most painful for the lobsters.

Lobsters can live to be 40- to 50 years old in the wild, making them mere babies when they are taken against their will and their lives painfully extinguished in droves for the sake of a single meal, to be forgotten days later. Perhaps we could begin to consider that these interesting and intelligent creatures do not exist solely for us to eat.

While this event may be a fundraiser for good causes, I’d like to point out that there are countless other ways to raise funds for these causes that do not involve the unnecessary deaths of innocent beings.
