It Should Be Razed

Given the cost to eliminate asbestos at the existing Academy building, I’m convinced it should be razed. I believe we should then re-create a facility that incorporates a similar external design utilizing the existing footprint. This new Academy can then become our Madison Community Center that would be enjoyed and utilized by all residents, including our teens who would thrive having a safe place to meet and interact.

In addition, we should incorporate a “Broadway like” quality theater arts facility that can be used by Hand High School for productions and, when not in use, loaned out for profit to an event organizer to run productions of the same caliber as The Kate in Old Saybrook. This preserves our green, provides our Hand students with a real theater, and gives us a much-needed community center for all to enjoy.

There currently exists multiple funding sources available at the state level in addition to generous bonding solutions to help keep the mill rate impact moderate. So let’s act responsibly and think toward the future of our town like others have done before us.
