Make Those Votes Count

What does a potential $1 million surplus in the town budget mean to Clinton taxpayers? It means that this year’s 10 percent tax increase was two percent too high. After two referendum defeats, the Board of Finance dares to reduce the budget another mere 0.5 percent and pile on yet another needless 2.5 percent increase in taxes this year. What are they possibly thinking? How can this even remotely be justified?

The taxpayers have every right to say “No.” They have in fact said “No” twice and been answered with token cuts that are embarrassingly small. If we are going to make those votes count, we must come back and vote “No” again on June 6.

When the tax bill arrives in July, it’s too late to do anything but pay it. We cannot let that tax bill be a blank check with our name on it. If your readers don’t vote on June 6, they can’t complain.
