Not Close to Proportionate

I thank the 1,805 Clinton voters who came out to vote “No” on May 9. While they prevailed in the first inning, we have not yet won the ball game. Even though the defeat was decisive, with 18 percent more people voting “No” than voting “Yes,” the Board of Finance proposes to cut the budget a minimal one half of one percent. That is not close to proportionate to the defeat.

After the 10-percent tax increase this year, taxpayers have a right to demand that spending is tamed and that taxes are held steady or even cut.

The Board of Finance can either prepare to cut more after the budget is resoundingly defeated again on May 23 or it can make enough cuts now that respect the clearly expressed will of the people. I for one don’t look forward to coning back again yet a third time in June. But we must all prepare to do so.

All the reasons people voted “No” the first time have not changed, but now those issues are compounded by such total disregard, indifference, and disrespect of voters.

I encourage your readers to help us amplify the aggrieved voices of taxpayers by voting “No” on May 23.
