Ignores the Will

What is it about “No” that the Clinton’s Board of Finance doesn’t understand? After such a decisive defeat (1,805 “No” votes to 1,536 “Yes”), cutting the budget a measly 0.5 percent is disgusting, disrespectful, and disheartening. That is exactly what the Clinton Board of Finance did after the votes were counted May 9.

Taxation without representation is still tyranny. When the Board of Finance ignores the will of the people, it is violating a sacred public trust. It is downright un-American. It forces the 1,805 people who voted “No” on May 9 to come back on May 23 and to vote “No” a second time.

Whether we voted “Yes” or “No,” we did so believing that our vote counted for something. Thinly peeling the tax onion after such an unambiguous rejection is to be forcefully aggrieved by the voters again.

I thank Clinton voters for resoundingly defeating these budgets on May 9. I encourage them to do it again on May 23.
