Unreasonable and Unsustainable

“I don’t want to move to Clinton—you can’t pass a budget,” said no one, ever. Yet, that’s exactly what Kim Buckley claimed she’s heard from people, according to the April 19 story “Budgets, with Revised ECS Estimates, Go to Voters May 9.” Ridiculous.

The two primary reasons people do give for not wanting to move to Clinton are the excessively high taxes and the inferior education system.

If the current budget proposals are passed, Clinton taxpayers will have seen their taxes increase by almost 15 percent in just two years! That’s obviously unreasonable and unsustainable.

Fortunately, Clinton taxpayers led by the Clinton Taxpayers Association have year after year defeated unreasonable budget requests, saving taxpayers millions. Hopefully, voters will do so again this year.

I’ve recommended for years the closing of Pierson School, sale of the current library property, and relocation of the library to the Pierson building, which would result in the town initially receiving millions and saving millions each year thereafter, but town officials have failed to implement this necessary move, wasting valuable resources. Now they’re asking taxpayers to approve another unnecessarily excessive budget.

I encourage your readers to vote “No!”
