Simply Too Risky

The proposed industrial waste recycling facility off Route 145 is before the Clinton Inland Wetlands Commission (IWC). During the IWC hearings, the dangers this facility represents to the Clinton wetlands have been vividly described. The countermeasures that the developers have described, particularly those needed in the event of a flood or fire at the facility, would be ineffectual. The State of Connecticut Department of Agriculture has serious concerns about the viability of the local shellfish industry in the Indian River and Clinton Harbor. A fire or a flood at the proposed facility could lead to a serious degradation of the quality of the shellfish being harvested downriver.

The companies in the Clinton Heritage Industrial Park (which abuts the site of the proposed industrial waste recycling facility) are very concerned about the likely consequences of fire and flood at the facility as well as the daily operations of such a vast recycling operation. They believe that their ongoing operations may be hindered by the presence of the recycling facility. Furthermore, many residents of Clinton live near the proposed facility, and they may be affected by pollution, noise, and dust emanating from the facility.

This proposal is simply too risky to be placed in such a sensitive place, so close to our town wetlands and adversely affecting its residential and nonpolluting commercial/industrial neighbors.
