Cannot Afford to Cut

In response to those in Clinton pushing for further cuts to the education operating budget, if the education budget gets cut, then we cannot stay competitive with other surrounding towns. Simply put, according to the most current Connecticut state data, Clinton’s per-pupil expenditure for 2016-’17 is $17,584 which is less than all of its surrounding districts except one, Haddam-Killingworth, which is $17,561. (This is only $23 less than Clinton). For Old Saybrook, the per-pupil expenditure is $19,033. This is $1,449 more than Clinton’s cost per student.

The Board of Education is to be commended for containing costs, but we cannot afford to cut more. I encourage your readers to vote “Yes” on May 9!
