A New Process Begins

The public hearing on Academy was buzzing April 11. I thank all our Madison residents who attended and voiced their opinion. The evening had quite the diversity of input, but to me it seemed clear the community did not want to see the open space go. I believe the Board of Selectmen heard loud and clear that we need a building-only solution.

A new process begins. What to do with the building? Many residents asked for a community center. We had Academy alumni speak with fond memories, a few people said raze it, some asked for the return of a school, and many other options were voiced as well. This is good! This has stimulated the citizens to come out and get involved.

This is our opportunity to create something special in this extraordinary town of Madison! We must work swiftly, creatively, and together as a community.

Let’s keep the energy and focus going. Be involved, ask questions, and talk to the Board of Selectman with possible solutions, concerns, and continued participation.
