Dancing with our Heroes

On March 10, the New England Fred Astaire dance studios held a Dancing with our Heroes benefit for the Fisher House Foundation. A Fisher House provides a no-cost comfort home for veterans’ families on the grounds of major military or Veterans Affairs medical centers such as the one in West Haven. Families use these homes while their veteran family members are receiving treatment at the facility.

The Dancing with our Heroes benefit enabled professional dancers at the studios the opportunity to provide lessons to military veterans who would then compete on the night of the benefit. Funds were generated by voting for the participants (one dollar equals one vote) and from a silent auction at the event.

Many thanks go to Raeleen St. Pierre and Thommy Huber of the Old Saybrook Fred Astaire Dance Studio for supporting this event, which generated more than $70,000 for the Fisher House Foundation. Also, a big thank you goes to Raeleen for helping this veteran find his way around a dance floor.
