Worth Every Cent

Attending the old Guilford High School was akin to driving a car at critical gas levels while having the check engine light on. It was not a safe environment, nor an environment conducive to academic and social success. The new school has solved all these problems while raising the bar.

As a music student, the new Guilford High School is a musical dream come true. I’m in awe of the space I have the privilege of working in every day. Our student body is now able to produce theatrical works at a level that would have been unattainable at the old high school. An example of this was the GHSTA production of Sweeney Todd, which won 10 awards at the Connecticut High School Musical Theater Awards, including Production of the Year. This wouldn’t have been possible in the old school.

It is just as exceptional in the classroom as it is on the stage. Rooms are bright, yet the light isn’t harsh. Chairs and desks allow for unique classroom layouts. Rooms have windows with inspiring views, a welcome change from the claustrophobic brick labyrinth that was the old building. However, with all of these upgrades, did the quality of my education improve? The answer, indisputably, is yes!

Interactive whiteboards, WiFi, and Google classroom allow teachers to seamlessly further the understanding of students, allowing for a more immediate and rigorous learning experience. This was attempted in the old building, but the infrastructure was incapable of supporting it.

To me, the new Guilford High School was worth every cent paid and then some. I could not ask for a better place to spend my last few years as a kid. I just want to say “Thank you” to all of the Guilford residents who made this possible for me.
